Lyric Analysis

Songs can have different meanings given to them via lyrics, melody and music videos. Some interpretations can be evident when examined with additional context (e.g. an animatic or music video). However, divorcing the melody and lyrics can bring out additional meaning within the lyrics themselves, for example an upbeat melody can obscure some dark and depressing lyrics. We decided to look through some songs and analyse the lyrics in several songs. My analysis results are listed below.

As mentioned above, separating music and lyrics can make additional meanings more evident, this is most obvious (in my opinion) with It's Oh So Quiet. The song's music is upbeat and aggressively cheerful, with the lyrics supporting an interpretation of giddiness and newfound romance. However, focusing solely on the lyrics, they come across as slightly more tragic. That's the good thing about music - there's always new meaning to be found from separating the core elements.
